What's new
Every change a player can notice gets a line here: a new mode, a new language, a fixed countdown, a moved button. The newest patch sits at the top, currently 1.15.2. Right at the bottom lies patch 1.0 from 2024, the one that did not have a server yet.
Patch 1.15.210 September 2026
The joker asks a second time before it burns on a number that is about to come along anyway. And in the standings a tie on score is settled by time, so the table shows who was faster.
Changes
- One more question about the jokerUse it now asks whether you really mean now. After tapping Use it now: the value picker straight away ⇒ one more question, and you can still back out and keep the jokerWhen keeping it is no longer possible: the question as well ⇒ it is skippedIt applies in: the game, the number picker, ranked, the daily challenge, a duel and a group gameDev Note: A kept joker gets its value only at the moment it comes in handy; whoever sets it right away loses that option. This is exactly where a joker most often burns on a number that the deck is about to hand out anyway. As soon as using it is the only way left, with an empty deck or the last free cells, the question stays away; by then it would only be in the way.
- Time in the standingsOn an equal score, whoever finished first is ahead. The same score and the same cells: two second places ⇒ second and third, the faster one on topA player row in the results table: the cells placed ⇒ the cells and the timeThe end of a duel on an equal score: the result alone ⇒ a line saying that time decided as wellDev Note: The time in the table comes from the server, the same one the order is sorted by, so the table cannot show anything other than what the standings rest on. A draw is left only for a game tied down to the millisecond.
Bugfixes
- After a new version went out, the pages that talk to the server, that is the profile, the leaderboard, the daily challenge, ranked and a group game, sometimes opened as bare text with no layout. The copy saved in the browser pointed at files from the older version and those were no longer on the server, so not a single stylesheet loaded. It sorted itself out after a while. The saved copies are now refreshed the moment the new version is taken over, and if a file were missing after all, its ordinary address is used instead of an error page.
- In a group game the message Only a joker can be kept stopped popping up. There is no clock over the question use it or keep it, so the row of numbers could move on in the meantime; the server then kept whatever the player holds now, not the joker the question was about. The request now says which joker it is, and on a mismatch the hand is set straight by the server.
- Pages that fit on the screen no longer jump sideways when you click through. Without a scrollbar the page was wider by its width and the bar as well as the grid moved with every switch; the room for the scrollbar is now kept at all times.
Patch 1.15.13 September 2026
Group games in the classroom stopped losing moves. A number the server confirmed and forgot a moment later is sent again, and a finished round is counted even when nobody ended the game.
Changes
- The polling pace in a large groupA class asks the server less often.Above twelve players: questions at most two and a half times rarer ⇒ four timesA drawn number on the screen: within two seconds ⇒ within threeDev Note: The flood protection counts requests per address and a whole school sits behind one. Thirty pupils made eight and a half requests a second and got through; fifteen a second closed the address for eight minutes, for the whole classroom at once. The teacher reads the drawn number out loud anyway.
- A rejected moveA passing error no longer means a message. An overloaded server, a dropped connection: the number back in the hand and a message ⇒ the move is sent againThe message: straight away ⇒ only once the move really did not go throughDev Note: The retry is spread out at random. Otherwise thirty clients rejected in one wave would retry in one wave as well.
- Statistics from a school gameA game nobody ended counts too.A game closed after the bell: vanished without a trace ⇒ the cleanup closes it and records it on the day it startedLeaving with a full grid: the game counted nowhere ⇒ it counts as finished, in the profile tooDev Note: On the easy difficulty nobody forfeits anything, so a single closed laptop keeps the game running forever, and then nobody clicks End game.
Bugfixes
- Group games stopped losing confirmed moves. The whole class writes into one record at once, so it happened that a move the server had confirmed was overwritten a moment later by the write of another player: the number disappeared from the grid, the player stayed stuck on the lost number and got no further ones for the rest of the round. With four players placing at once it was every twentieth move, with eight every sixth, in a class most of them. The client now spots the loss and sends the move again; after three vain attempts the number comes back into the hand and the player places it themselves.
- A lost move no longer takes the next one with it. Anyone who had another number in the queue and placed it before the loss was noticed got the message about a crossed move and lost both numbers. The older move is sent again first, the newer one after it, and both numbers stay on the grid.
- A joker placed from the hand no longer gets stuck on the grid. When its write was lost, the number showed on the grid but the server knew nothing about it and the player never finished the round. The joker now comes back into the hand and can be placed again.
- The standings no longer stay lying over the grid. When the write about the end of the round was lost, the game went back to running, but the results table stayed open over the grid the player was supposed to keep placing on.
Patch 1.1531 August 2026
The game speaks six languages. Polish, German and French joined Czech, Slovak and English, and everywhere: in the rules, in the scoring table and in the invitation to a group.
New
- Polish, German and FrenchThe site speaks six languages.Switched: by the flag in the bar, and the choice survives closing the browserTranslated: the whole site, rules, scoring table and the school pages includedAn address of its own:
?lang=pl,?lang=de,?lang=fr, so they can be sent as a link and found in a search engineDev Note: The language you pick travels with the invitation to a group game too, so a whole lesson can run in Polish or German. - The translation offerA foreign browser gets the invitation in its own tongue. The bar above the top bar: Slovak and English ⇒ Polish, German and French as wellDev Note: It is still an offer, not a silent change of language. Close it and it does not come back.
- Link preview cardsA link shared in a foreign tongue shows a card in that tongue.Cards: 16 ⇒ 40, eight pages times five languagesDev Note: Slovak stays with the Czech card, the two tongues understand each other on it.
Changes
- Playing without a connectionThe offline page speaks too.Text without a connection: in three languages ⇒ in all sixDev Note: The offline page is put together by the service worker, which cannot see the dictionary, so those sentences stand there on their own.
- Start page, For schools and the Teacher's guideThe languages listed are the right ones.It used to say: the game speaks three languages ⇒ six, with a link to each
Bugfixes
- The descriptions of the drawings on this page were read out in Czech in a foreign version. A screen reader met a Czech sentence in the middle of English text at four pictures; they are translated into every language now.
Patch 1.1430 August 2026
The biggest patch since launch. The rules got pictures and common questions, Matematico got the origin of the game, and group games stopped placing ghost moves.
New
- RulesTwo pictures and a list of common questions.Scored lines: a paragraph of text ⇒ three boards side by side, five rows plus five columns plus two diagonalsCombinations next to each other: described only ⇒ the same four numbers whole, and below them cut by a foreign numberCommon questions: none ⇒ deck size, jokers, how many lines score, combinations next to each other, the missing score previewDev Note: The pictures are drawn inside the page, so they take the colours of your theme and nothing extra gets downloaded.
- MatematicoA chapter on where the game came from.Oldest trace: England 1908, under the name Poker PatienceWhole-class variant: rules from 1909, the caller reads the cards out loudInventor: unknown, and the page says so outrightDev Note: Everything is backed by links to sources. Where a source is missing, nothing is claimed.
- Teacher's guideA chapter on running the lesson in English.Group invite: carried no language ⇒ carries the language with it, both the copied link and the projected QR codeDev Note: The whole class ends up in the English version, whether anyone switched it or not.
Changes
-
Number drawReady for a projector.Drawn number, chips, rest of the deck: the width of the interface ⇒ the whole width of a wide displayHow fast they grow: same as the rest of the interface ⇒ fasterRoom above on a projector: cut off ⇒ the last row of the deck fits on the screenDev Note: The measure is the back row of the classroom. Whoever cannot read the number is not playing.
- Number draw and TableNo more dead ends.Links below the board: one, back to the start ⇒ rules, the school page, the printable sheet
- Printable game sheetThe licence is on the sheet itself.Dev Note: A printed sheet travels around the staff room on its own, without the page that says it may be used free and without asking. Now it carries that permission with it, on half a line under the address.
- Start page and For schoolsThree languages, spelled out.Translated: the board, the rules, the scoring table and the printable sheet, that is everything a pupil sees
Bugfixes
-
Group games no longer place ghost moves. On a congested connection the confirmation could get lost: the number was sitting in the cell, but the player got a message about a crossed move and the number jumped back into their hand. The server now recognises a second delivery of the same move and takes it as a success. In a class of thirty placing at once it happened almost every round.
- A move rejected because two players hit the same moment is now retried by the client in group games too. Only ranked games could do it, so a player in a class where twelve people ask at once got an error bar instead of a move.
- The home screen icon on iPhone and iPad is called Mat. Poker. Older Safari took the name from the page title and cut it down to „Matematický poker (Matem…“.
- The offline game on iPhone no longer disappears. Every deploy added a new copy of the styles and scripts to the offline store and the old one stayed there; iOS throws an overfull store away whole, offline game included. Old copies now clean themselves up.
Patch 1.1329 August 2026
A patch for teachers and for anyone who plays on more than one device. A guide to group games arrived and profiles can now be moved as a file.
New
- Teacher's guideNew page. Group games step by step.Steps: where to find the game, how to open a lobby, how to send the code out, what each part of the screen means, how the final standings are announcedAt every step: a shot from a wide display and a shot from a phone, recoloured to the theme you have onLinks from: the start page, For schools and the menu
-
ProfileProfiles can be moved to another device.Backup: downloads as a file and comes back from the same file, in another browser or on another phoneThe file: pick it with a button, or drop it on the fieldStats in the backup: none, the server holds them and fetches them after loadingDev Note: Do not send the backup to anyone. Whoever has it plays as you.
- The „Start here“ tagIt stays lit until you finish your first round.Where: on the Play tile on the start page, on Easy in the mode pickerDev Note: Easy is the only mode with a tutorial. Everywhere else you are waiting for other players or the clock is running, and that is no place to learn the game.
Changes
-
LeaderboardIt shows your row even when you are past the end of the table.Listed: top fiftyKept: top hundredBelow that: nothing ⇒ your own rank and score on a separate row under the listPlayer count: capped at 50 ⇒ the full count
- RankedThe standings sit right under the board.Periods: not switchable here, the overall standings hold; today and this week are one link awayDev Note: You can see what you are playing for and where the result landed without leaving for the leaderboard page.
- Start page without a connectionYou can tell where you can go.Server-only tiles: looked like the rest, the click ended on the browser error page ⇒ dimmed, with a reasonDimmed: daily challenge, duel, group game, ranked, leaderboard, profileStill live: easy and hard games, Table, Number draw, readingDev Note: When the signal comes back, the rest lights up on its own.
- Console above the boardYou can reach the rules from a round in progress.Combination table: no link ⇒ a link to the rules, and above it two sentences saying a number scores at once in every line it passes throughOpens in: a new tab, so the round stays where it is
- Server messagesA sentence instead of a code.Rarer rejections: „Server rejected the move (bad_cell)“ ⇒ a sentence you can act onDev Note: It shows most at school, where a whole class plays from one address and the overload brake treats it as a single player. The message now makes it clear it is only a short wait.
Bugfixes
- A duel rematch is confirmed by both players. Only the player who opened the duel dealt the new round, so the opponent had no way to ask for a rematch and the duel ended after the first round. Now the first press offers it and the second deals it, and the series score joined the standings and the result screen.
- Leaderboard writes no longer get lost when a whole class plays. When several players finished at once, their writes fought over the same record and someone's row was quietly missing. Losing attempts are now spread out in time.
Patch 1.1228 August 2026
A patch about speed and calm. Pages open without waiting, they blend into each other, and nothing jumps under your hands any more.
New
- PrerenderingClicking through takes no waiting.Trigger: hovering a link, or the start of a pressSupported by: Chrome and Edge; other browsers navigate as beforeDev Note: Group and duel lobbies are left out on purpose. There the page would claim a seat for a player who never clicked.
- Page transitionsPages blend into each other.Between pages: a cut ⇒ a crossfadeDev Note: The site is still a set of separate pages and every click is a fresh load. A browser that cannot crossfade navigates as before.
Changes
- Consent bar and translation barThe page no longer twitches after loading.Room for both bars: none, they turned up after the first paint ⇒ reserved from the first frameDev Note: It showed most on the game page, where the board jumped with them.
- Console above the boardIt holds its shape.Counters, number tile, badges, main button: room by content ⇒ room fixedDev Note: Badges used to jump after every move, hitting one between numbers was luck, and on a phone the console sometimes wrapped a line lower, board and all.
- The back buttonIt returns the page instantly, the way you left it.Going back: a fresh load ⇒ no loadingLeaderboard on return: refetches itselfDaily challenge on return: notices that midnight has passed and clears yesterday's board
- Top barOnly the theme and language switches are left in it.Quick link: different on every page ⇒ gone, every page is in the menu
Bugfixes
- In group games and duels a number no longer lands anywhere but where it was aimed. On a slow connection the server reply could be delayed and the next click then placed the number the server was holding, not the one the player was looking at. Every move now carries the number the player is placing, and a reply overtaken on the way by a newer one is thrown away.
- On a touch display the cell under the last tap stopped staying lit. The browser left a mouse-cursor state hanging on it, so after tapping the draw button a cell nobody was touching stayed highlighted.
Patch 1.11.227 August 2026
The lobby code shrank to three digits and the profile got its order sorted from the top down.
Changes
- Lobby codeA three-digit number.Length: five characters ⇒ three digitsCharacters: letters and digits ⇒ digitsPhone keyboard: switching to capitals ⇒ the number padDev Note: The code gets read out loud and written on the board. Three digits are easy to remember and readable across the room.
- ProfileThe best score comes first and has a row of its own.Dev Note: Whether you are looking at your own numbers or at the whole site, the headline figure is always in the same place at the top.
- Buttons in the profileThey got icons and a clearer outline.Outlined buttons: blended into the dividers between rows ⇒ darker
Bugfixes
- Switching between light and dark no longer flashes. In Firefox the page spent a moment without theme colours and flipped through the browser defaults, black text on a transparent background. The new look is now loaded alongside the old one and swapped in a single step. The top bar also stopped peeling away in colour from the background under it.
Patch 1.11.126 August 2026
The countdown stopped eating thinking time and the stored-joker reminder stopped jumping into the middle of the game.
Changes
- Hard-difficulty countdown in group gamesIt starts at the player, not at the server.Countdown starts: when the card is dealt ⇒ when the number appears on screenWith a dialog open: the countdown runs ⇒ the countdown stopsDev Note: A few seconds went missing on the way through the network and a number placed in time sometimes fell through. Everyone now gets their whole limit, on fibre or on a weak signal out of town, and you can think about a joker without a number burning underneath.
- Stored-joker reminderIt stopped jumping into the middle of the game.First: a message at the bottom and a flashing joker badgeFull question: with every new number, impossible to dismiss ⇒ only on the last few cellsDev Note: A dialog you cannot dismiss effectively forced the player to throw the joker away at once. That is the opposite of what a joker is for.
- Hover statesButtons, links and switches show that they are alive.Quiet buttons: went black on hover ⇒ their own responseThe green „Play again“: flipped its colour ⇒ its own responseJoker chip: looked dead even when it was clickable ⇒ its own response
Patch 1.1125 August 2026
The theme and language switches were redrawn, pages open from the browser's memory, and the hard-difficulty countdown was straightened out.
New
- Splash screen on iPhoneThe game added to the home screen starts with a logo.Dev Note: iOS saves the image at the moment you add the game to the home screen and holds it on the display until the game gets going.
- Joker watch in group gamesThe badge flashes when jokers are running out of free cells.Dev Note: The last joker should stay in your hand on purpose, not because you forgot about it.
Changes
- Language switchA round flag and the full language name.Icon: a globe with an abbreviation ⇒ a flagItems in the open menu: bare text ⇒ a flag and the full name
- Light and dark switchRedrawn.Shape: a bare circle ⇒ a sun and a moon on a track with a slider between themIn the collapsed menu: no label ⇒ a label saying which mode is on
- Page loadingPages open instantly from the browser's memory.First paint: waited for the network ⇒ straight from memory, the fresh version downloads in the backgroundA fix arrives: right away ⇒ one launch laterDev Note: The game launched from the home screen used to show an empty window for a moment, black in dark mode. One launch of delay is worth a start without waiting.
Bugfixes
- The hard-difficulty countdown belongs to the card in your hand and nothing else. It stopped running between moves and under an open joker question, where it was eating players' thinking time. And when the deck ran out in a single-player game it used to tick down to zero on its own and trigger an extra move; that is gone too.
- A lost server reply no longer places someone else's number. When a reply went astray, the next click could place a different number than the one in front of the player. The server now gets the value the player is placing with every move, rejects a mismatch and sends fresh state.
Patch 1.1023 August 2026
The theme picker narrowed down to two, and this page came into being.
New
- What's newThis page was added.Dev Note: Enough had changed since launch to be worth reading in order. From here on every patch lands here.

Patch 1.0June 2024 · the school version
Where it came from. The school version, no site and no server yet, but it was played. It is still in the repository: twenty-two files and thirteen images in the _original folder, with an icon time-stamped 24 June 2024.
What was in it
- The school versionThree pages in a row and nothing behind them.Pages: Number draw, Table, Game (easy / hard)Board: a table you typed into directlyScoring: a handler written into an attribute on every single cellGrid lines: a style written straight into the markup, twenty-five times overLight and dark switch: a checkbox and four imagesBackground: six ready-made images, phone / tablet / monitor times light / darkFonts: Google Fonts, two families, linked twice in the headPage language:
lang="en"above Czech textServer: noneDev Note: The file names show how it grew:number selection.htmlwith a space in the middle,tabluka.cssandtalbe.cssside by side, andstredni.jsfor the hard difficulty. The countdown knew three colours and was repainted from a timer that ran all the time, even when nobody was playing. - What is left of itThe three of them are still on the start page.Number draw, Table, Game: stayed, everything else was added around themDev Note: With no server there was no leaderboard, no profile and no shared round: you played at one computer and the result went nowhere. There was no language other than Czech, no installing to the home screen, no playing without a connection. That is why it was rewritten from scratch rather than piece by piece, and the old version stayed in the folder on purpose: it is a measure of how far the site has come, and a reminder that a first version does not have to be pretty, it has to exist.
